Chris has created the newest and freshest soccer magazine, FFI. After months of brainstorming, researching, and building a competent and knowledgeable staff, the first issue of the magazine hit the streets in July. If you have not subscribed yet, you will. (10/15/07)
Branden Garcia '06
Earned his second shutout of the season in Concordia University's 5-0 win over San Diego Christian College. Earlier in the season, Branden recorded a shut out against Chapman University and earned a split in the shutout against St. Thomas from Minnesota. Currently is unscored upon for the season and his collegiate career. (10/3/07)
Steven DeCastro '07
Steven ran a 28:12 in his first collegiate cross-country race and has earned a spot on Cal. State Long Beach's men's team. Next race: Santa Clara Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13. (9/30/07)
Tommy Smith '06
Zee has worked his way into the playing rotation at Cal. Poly Pomona. He has played in five of the team's last six games, including two starts in a win and tie. (9/29/07)
Ashkon Banihashemi '07
Ashkon scored his first collegiate goal for Azusa Pacific University in the second game of the season against Domincan College. He has earned playing time in four games now.(9/1/07)
Andrew Kristof '05
Andrew will have the beginning of his season hindered by a knee injury he suffered in the spring. He looks to recover in time to make an impact this season for the LMU Lions. (8/15/07)
**** 2006 ****
12/29/06 Adrian Ramirez '06 (Harbor College), suffered a broken collarbone in practice that cut his season short. Looks to return better and stronger for next season.
12/17/06 Manny Guzman '04 ( CSU Bakersfield), started in all 20 games and was 4th in goals scored, assists, and points for the Roadrunners. His player earned his team's Offensive Player of the Year award. Not bad for a kid who entered West at under 5' and 100 pounds.
12/17/06 Chaz Cotugno '04 (United States Navy), is currently stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. Enjoys the challenges he faces every day and looks forward to the Alumni Game now that it is being played during his leave.
12/17/06 Joe Stoakley '02 (LMU ), closed out his collegiate soccer playing career in style. Scored in his final game for LMU against USF. Finished his career with six goals and one assist. Also made the Falcon Invitational All-Tournament team in his sophomore year.
12/17/06 Brandon Oster '04 (L.A. Harbor College), completed his eligibility at LAHC this past season and is now head coach of the boys soccer team at Harbor Teach Prep. Academy. It will only be a short coaching stint as Brandon is looking to continue playing after graduating from Harbor in May.
12/15/06 Ibrahim Elaffas '06 (CSU Long Beach), is looking forward to playing with the university's mens club team. Was recently cleared to play after recovering from getting hacked from behind and injuring his knee last season.
11/26/06 Tommy Smith '06 ( Cal. Poly Pomona), red-shirted his first year. Looks to have a bright future in the program as the coaches see him as having “a good understanding of the game” and “able to possess and control the ball”.
11/10/06 Simon Hoffman '06 (ECC), is coaching at his alma mater. Misses playing with his old teammates and jumps into the varsity training when coach lets him.
**** 2005 ****
12/5/05 Scotty Anagnostou '04 (ECC), has returned to his old stomping grounds to coach his peers - the freshman and sophomores on Frosh-Soph. Rumor has it, all they do is practice hitting the goal posts and have bear crawl races against the coach.
12/3/05 Manny Guzman '04 and Brandon Oster '04 (Harbor JC), represented West High in the '05 Southern California Junior College Championship game against Rio Hondo. Even though Manny and Brandon gave it all they had, they could not defeat their opponent for the second time in the season. While we would have liked to seen both playing in the state championship game, at least we will see both of them at the alumni game.
**** 2004 ****
9/14/04 Manny Guzman '04 (Harbor JC), has joined his brothers at Harbor College but is redshirting to keep his 4 years of eligibility. This time next year, the plan is for Manny to be playing for CSU Bakersfield. Hopefully it works out for him.
9/14/04 Brandon Oster '04 (Harbor JC), has taken his game on to Harbor College and is working the hardest he has in his life. The O-man is looking to do well for the Hawks and springboard into bigger and better things.
9/14/04 Scotty Anagnostou '04 (ECC), is waiting for his broken toe to heal before he can get on the field for the Warriors of El Camino. Hopefully it is before the Camino/Harbor game so we can Scotty face off against Brandon.
9/12/04 Jaret Minami '01 (CSUDH), started the season recovering from an injury. The Toros are anxiously awaiting his return to bolster up the teams midfield. Look for J.T. to make a big contribution to CSUDH's success this season as soon as he is healthy.
9/12/04 Joe Stoakley '02 (LMU ), earned his first start and scored his first goal of the season in the Lion's victory against American University at the CSUN Tourney. The forward position at LMU is very crowded, but look for Joe to tally his fair share of goals this season.
**** 2003 ****
10/25/03 Sean Silver '03 (ECC), is pulling double duty - soccer and football - just like he did when he was at West. In soccer, even though he joined the team late in the season, he earned a starting position and a victory against Cerritos. Of course, it wouldn't be Sean unless there were injuries. This time it is a slipped disc. Sounds painful, but Sean was not a 95'er by luck. I expect to see him ready for the alumni game on the 26th.
10/19/03 Carlos Cornejo '03 (OSU ), has scored in three consecutive games for #17 OSU. In each of the games, including a victory against #8 Washington, Boku has scored the first goal of the game. The win over UW put Carlos and his teammates in second place in the Pac-10 Conference with a showdown against first place UCLA on Saturday, Nov. 9th at 1:00. This is Oregon State's only game in the L.A. area this year so we hope to see you there in support of a fellow West High player!
10/18/03 Jaret Minami '01 (CSUDH), returned to action against Chico St. for the #4 ranked Toros. As a starting outside back for the highly ranked and respected Toros the past two seasons, J.T. has been a strong contributor to the team's success. His return from a concussion is definitely a positive step for the Toros upcoming NCAA Div. II championship run.
10/5/03 Joe Stoakley '02 (LMU ), earned his first start against USF in the Lions first WCC game. Playing in 12 of the team's 13 games, Joe has scored two goals and assisted on the game-winning goal against the previously #9 ranked and undefeated UCSB team. In only his a second year, Joe is having a good year and looks to be driven to having an even better future.
